A Home Run with Albemarle Area United Way

If you visited the Waterpark the weekend of July 31st you may remember visiting the Albemarle Area United Way tent, or maybe on a later visit you dropped some change into one of the donation boxes that directly supported them. We wanted to share what your donation means to our local non-profit organization.

United Way is an international network of local non-profit fundraising affiliates which includes volunteers, advocates, partners, and donors who are committed to advancing the common good by mobilizing communities around education, financial stability and health. We are very fortunate to have a local branch called the Albemarle Area United Way which currently serves the residents of Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties. Their vision is to build stronger and healthier communities across Northeastern North Carolina.

One of their annual fundraising events is Bocce, Beers, and Bites held at Elizabeth City’s scenic Waterfront Park. The event is a bracket-style Bocce Ball Tournament. It is a great way to gather friends for some friendly competition, brews from Ghost Harbor Brewing Company, and barbeque from Currituck BBQ Company. Not one for competition? You can purchase an individual entry ticket for brews and BBQ only, while you cheer from the sidelines. This year’s event will be held on April 30th, 2022. Time to round up a crew and start practicing for the tournament. You can learn more about this event and register here.

This season we also teamed up with Albemarle Area United Way to sponsor an Edenton Steamers game over the patriotic July 4th holiday weekend. The Edenton Steamers are a summer baseball team in the Premier Collegiate League, a division of the Tidewater Summer League. The H2OBX logo was featured on the Steamers uniforms and each player’s shirt was auctioned off. At the end of the night, you can take home your winnings right off the back of the baseball players. If you’re lucky you could get an autograph from them too. Many of these collegiate athletes move on to play in the Major League. All of the proceeds from the auctioned jerseys went to Albemarle Area United Way!

Next time you are around town think about the different ways you can help give back to your local community, whether it’s attending a bocce tournament or throwing some change into a donation box! Your donation was a home run for our local community of Northeastern North Carolina.
