The storm had finally retreated off the Carolina coast, leaving sunshine and unpredictable seas in its wake. One minute, a gentle breaker was rolling against my knees. The next, I was diving beneath a wave more than six feet high! A small crowd gathered to enjoy the balmy Outer Banks day and splash by the shore. We paddled, laughed and played all morning long.
